Work, computers, delays...
Nothing interesting happened today (or over the last week), however I didn't write anything here in years, so I think, it's time to write something.

I am still working on the computer design, the cooling system works perfectly, first prototype was completed months ago, and right now it is being prepared for production. Things may look simple on paper, but in reality I had to wait weeks before the sheet metal shop produced something that now looks vaguely like my drawings, and I expect that tomorrow they will fix the last two dimensions (one of them was wrong in my drawings from the very beginning, the other was their miscalculation, however overall they did a good job). Milled parts were ready for a week, however they are of little use before the rest of the box, assembly rig and the filling machine will be ready.

I hope, as things will get closer to completion there will be more interesting stuff to post, I will be less nervous, and maybe even will be able to either switch to the software side of things, or complete the "pure research" part of the work. Over the last year I have spent most of my time doing things that I wasn't really prepared for, however lacking a better choice in a company that was literally starting from zero, I still had to do them.

In other not-exactly-news, I am keeping the network at work running entirely on Linux, mostly Debian Sarge. If anyone is wondering what CAD did I use, it was mostly qcad (1.x, then 2.x -- great for 2D work, 2.x fixed the braindamaged DXF version that 1.x used), and occasionally varicad (a lot of features that I didn't use, so I have mostly noticed annoying bugs in undo handling, and "creative" handling of dimensions in DXF as blocks).

Spam and viruses are rampant, and even though I didn't have a single box infected (what is not much of an accomplishment when none of them run Windows), the amount of junk in my mailbox is getting scary. Even with bogofilter I get piles of "misspelled" spam in my main mailbox, I guess, it's time to add something "heavier".

Hey Alex. Have you spoken with Mike C any more about the cooling thing-a-majiggy?

Overall, it sounds like progress is being made which, I'd imagine, is a good thing.

Also, I find your written English far superior to most Americans I know = P.

And, lastly... I hope this comes out right...

I don't know about that, however my spoken English certainly sucks.
