Power supplies and cases
I have got the power supplies from Zippy and Sparkle, and the new power supply cases from the metal shop. After placing the Zippy one into the new case, I have found some errors in the case geometry, and expect those parts to be re-done tomorrow. Trogdor's 1u cases are still in the metal shop, and it looks like this time everything is fine. I have finally seen how the case looks with those large thumbscrews that hold the covers, and it's even better than I thought. If someone cares, two thumbscrews in front of the case hold the front cover (gives access to the hard drives and fans), and two in the back hold the back cover (motherboard, PCI cards, cables, heat exchangers). So if one has to replace the hard drive, he needs to pull the case 1/3 way out of the rack, open two front thumbscrews, pull them to get the cover off, and work on the drives, without messing with the motherboard, and without any "hot-swappable" or "cold-swappable" trays (of course, they still have brackets to hold them). In theory, I can even use hot-swappable connectors with this, but I am not sure that it's justified in this design.
